Web Design — A Look Into the Worst Class of My College Career

Digital Media Convergence — Chapter 7

This week’s chapter and the image to the left is haunting to me. You see, during my junior year fall semester, I decided that to fill my math/science/computer science elective for general education I would take a class called “Website Design & Management”.

BIG. MISTAKE.

Okay, it wasn’t that bad. But, oh boy, did I learn how difficult coding can be. Just when I thought I had it, it got more complicated! Not to mention, I have HORRIBLE eyesight, so searching through lines of code for my mistake was terrible.

On the first exam, I received a 67. Not terrible for someone thoroughly confused! The second exam, I got a 74. Improvement!!!! We love to see it. However, then we got to our third exam…… which occurred the week of Cornhuskin’.

I got a 38. Yikes.

The 4th exam, we went back to a 63. I was BANKING on our final project to pull me out of the proverbial hole I found myself in. Luckily I didn’t have any other finals to worry about — they were all projects to be turned in on LDOC and our final presentation was during our class’s scheduled final, which was the last day for finals.

I vaguely remember that week and a half. I was also fighting off a sinus infection (which I found out was more than a sinus infection when I got home for break and immediately broke a fever), so it’s all a blur. I worked NONSTOP on this final project — making our own website — and it was worth it. I got a 100 on the final, and passed the class with a B.

While I hated the class, it definitely taught me some interesting things about media. I’m just glad that I never have to take it ever again!

The moral of the story? Don’t take coding.
